Ratio of Calcium to Phosphorus

This ratio is extremely important for protecting your horses health .

Minerals and nutrients interact in many different ways. One of the most important is between calcium and phosphorus. For every gram of phosphorus ingested in the diet, the horse's body must “obtain”another gram of calcium before the phosphorus can be absorbed via the intestinal wall into the bloodstream.

This calcium will come either from the diet or your horse's body ! ...by raiding the calcium storage depots in the bones.

Obviously this is dangerous for your horse, so watch the ratio of Calcium to Phosphorus very carefully. Nutritionists recommend a 2:1 Ca:P ratio to be on the safe side.
